As I am sure you know Oscar Grant, a young 22-year-old Black man was murdered in cold blood on January 1, 2009 (New Year's Day) as he laid face down by BART police officer Johannes Mehserle. The only defense for Mehserle is that he thought he had pulled out his taser as opposed to his gun. Even the use of a taser is criminal in this case as far as I'm concerned. Especially since Grant was lying face down with Mehserle's partner's knee pressing on the back of Grant's neck. Also, tasers have been known to kill people as well. To make matters worse, the officers attempted to confiscate all of the video phone cameras that they could find in Nazi-like fashion. To top it all off, when charges were filed against Mehserle, he fled to Nevada only to be captured and brought back to California. Despite this criminal act, Mehserle was granted bail. Could this possibly be the last straw of injustice against dark and poor people before the boiler blows? Let's hope not. Let's hope that politics doesn't play into this in favor of the police as it always has. Because if the boiler does blow, all of us, including the police, will feel the heat.
